Information about medications can help us better understand how treatments affect health. In previous questionnaires, we asked you about medicines you may have used, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), antibiotics, and statins. Responses from Breast Cancer Now Generations Study participants have already contributed to research showing how HRT may affect the risk of breast cancer. However newer types of HRT and other drugs continue to be made available and it is important to study how they may affect risk of breast cancer.
Linking to NHS prescription data can improve the quality of research
We are now planning to obtain prescription records directly from the NHS for participants who consented to access to their medical records when they joined the study. These records will not replace the information collected through questionnaires, as NHS prescribing data mainly includes medicines prescribed by GPs and may not capture all treatments people use. However, by linking to NHS prescription data, we will have more complete and detailed information on a wider range of medications, helping to improve the quality and accuracy of future research.
