Meet Reuben Frost, a research associate at the Generations Study

Reuben Frost is a research associate who started working at the ICR in November 2023 with Professor Garcia-Closas. Reuben began at the ICR after completing his Master’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Oxford. Since joining the ICR, Reuben’s interest for mathematics and statistics has evolved to a passion for applying those skills into researching breast cancer and its causes.

Reuben evaluates existing and builds new, improved breast cancer risk prediction models using genetic information, as well as health, lifestyle, and medical data from study participants. These models are vital in our healthcare system for two reasons: they inform individuals on their risk of breast cancer so they can take preventative measures, and they inform governing bodies on how to allocate resources to those who need it most. The goal of Reuben’s research is to evaluate existing breast cancer risk prediction models and to help develop new models that can predict breast cancer more accurately. This includes evaluating the potential effect of these new models in the NHS clinical pathways.

"Being able to use my training in statistics to study something as impactful as breast cancer risk prediction is really exciting. I am especially motivated by the collaborations with other studies around the world which brings together global expertise on risk modelling. Without the genetic information and incredibly detailed data participants have given to the Breast Cancer Now Generations Study, this kind of research would not be possible. In particular, the many completed questionnaires and other data provided throughout the length of the study allows us to evaluate these models in an incredibly powerful way. It is my hope these models will impact in the ways that we communicate breast cancer risk which will lead to women being more empowered in their healthcare decisions."
